What's the difference between deodorant and antiperspirant?

Posted by on

Everyone hates to smell bad - that's not new information. Enter deodorant and antiperspirant, the two products we use to fix this problem. Both products do a great job of keeping body odor at bay- but how are they different?

PSA: Deodorant and antiperspirant are not the same thing! Contrary to popular belief, they are two different products with two different purposes- and completely different ingredients. Essentially, antiperspirants are made to stop sweating, and deodorant is used to cover up and reduce odor.

What is antiperspirant?

Antiperspirant is used to prevent sweating and stop you from smelling. It works by using aluminum, which clogs up your sweat ducts to stop sweat. While you may prefer feeling dry and sweat free, your body is designed to sweat. Sweating is healthy, so let your body do it’s thing!

What is deodorant?

Enter deodorant- the better for you, B.O. solution. Deodorant does exactly what it sounds like- stops you from smelling! Deodorant prevents and masks body odor by reducing bacteria in your pits. Your sweat doesn’t actually smell- the odor happens when your sweat mixes with the bacteria on your skin. Deodorant prevents bacteria build up, and therefore the bad smells that come with it. Choosing deodorant allows your body to sweat and naturally detoxify while still fighting body odor. Deodorant keeps you fresh and clean!

Moral of the story, using an effective deodorant that absorbs sweat and prevents B.O. is the way to go. Curie uses arrowroot powder and cornstarch to absorb sweat, and our great scents keep you smelling good. Your body is supposed to sweat- it’s good for you! Kick the alumunium to the curb and switch to Curie. We have two options, a deodorant stick and spray, and a detox mask to help make the transition to aluminum-free a breeze.
